Production Process
At five metres a Spinosaurus is a distinctive animal. At eight metres with a 3.5 m sail it becomes a landmark — the thing visible from the car park, the silhouette that tells people where the dinosaur park is before they see the sign.
SKU YKL-062: eight metres long, 1.2 m across the body, 3.5 m to the top of the sail.
The sail at this height
A sail is a flat panel standing in moving air, and at 3.5 m it generates real side load. The build answers that in three ways: the neural spines that support it are steel ribs tied into the main frame rather than into the outer skin, the silicone over the sail runs at the thick end of the five-to-seven-millimetre range, and the base frame is anchored rather than resting.
If the site is exposed — a rooftop, a coastal park, an open field with no windbreak — say so at enquiry. It changes rib spacing and it may add anchor points, and both are much cheaper to decide before fabrication.
The head is not a T-Rex head
The skull is long, low and narrow, with a notch at the front where the jaws meet and conical teeth set to interlock. Builders who reshape a theropod skull sideways produce a model that looks wrong to anyone who has seen the animal, and it is the most common failure on cheap Spinosaurus pages.
The jaw travel is shallow for the same reason: a long snout with a wide gape reads as a puppet. On this build the mouth opens far enough to show the teeth and closes with the sound, and that is all it needs to do.
Six movement groups
Head left and right, neck up and down, jaw open and close with a roar, blinking eyes, tail sweep, forearm scratch. The neck is the group to tune: the head is light enough to move quickly, and a slow rise of the whole neck is what shows off the sail behind it.
Independent drives with end-of-travel protection; loop, sensor or mat triggering; speeds set and documented at commissioning.
Placement
Put it where the profile is visible from a distance and the sail has sky behind it. A Spinosaurus framed against trees loses the one feature that makes it worth buying; the same animal against open sky reads from two hundred metres.
Side-on, at four to eight metres, is the viewing distance that flatters it. End-on the sail disappears and the animal looks like a low theropod with a hump.
Finish and delivery
Welded Q235 steel frame with anti-rust treatment, foam volume, silicone five to seven millimetres, translucent layered colour. The standard palette is a grey-brown body with darker banding across the sail and a pale underside, which holds up against both planting and concrete.
Rated −25 °C to 45 °C, 110 V or 220 V configured at build. Ships in sections with base frame, control cabinet, sound system, wiring diagram and calibration sheet. Freight, duties, certificates and installation are quoted separately from the product price.
Water, and the fish-eater story
If the animal is going beside a pond, the exhibit gains a narrative: long snout, conical teeth, a sail that may have been display rather than a fin, and a body built low over the hips. Visitors who have only seen the film version get something more interesting than they expected.
It also changes the specification. Splash is handled with coating and drainage; standing water around the feet needs the base raised on a plinth and the cable route brought in from above. Tell us the distance to the water and we'll adjust the lower third of the finish accordingly.
Enquiry
Send the site photo and tell us what is behind the animal from the main approach. If the answer is trees or a building, we'll suggest a rotation or a different position before quoting.
Where to go next
Two things come up in almost every enquiry on this build: how the size compares with the alternatives, and what it takes to get it on site. The spare parts and repair kit list sets out the length options side by side, and the size guide covering 3 m to 12 m builds covers pads, access and assembly. Budget planning sits in the rental cost breakdown.
For ideas on placing it, see guest routing ideas. The rest of the range is on animatronic dinosaurs, and if this one is the wrong size for the slot, animatronic spinosaurus for science centres is the closest alternative.
