In-Depth Product Introduction

Half a dinosaur, deliberately. This puppet is the head, the neck and the forearms, about a metre in total, with no body behind it. The head is large for the shell, which is the point: a big face at close range while the unit stays light enough to lift with one arm.

Why leave the body off

Full-body puppets need floor space and a clear sightline. A head-and-neck unit can work over a table, behind a low curtain, from a doorway, or from a seat in a museum gallery. The audience fills in the rest of the animal, and at two metres they do it without effort.

It also solves a practical problem: a performer can hold this at chest height for a whole session without a second operator, and put it down between groups.

Worked from behind the neck

The opening is at the back of the neck. Your hand goes in there and works the jaw, the eyes and the head turn on the internal frame. The forearm and claw section hangs from the neck and moves with it, which gives the head something to gesture with. The other hand stays on the multi-key remote.

Close-up and stage

At close range the details carry the performance: the teeth line, the eye movement, the way the head dips to a child's height. On a stage, the same unit works as a reveal from behind a flat or a curtain, because there is no body to hide before the entrance.

Sound

Four calls on four keys, fired from the free hand while the other works the jaw. The 12V control box with speaker goes in a pocket, speaker aimed at the audience, so the voice appears to come from the head in front of them.

Practical notes

The neck is the part that takes the load, so it is built on the frame rather than on the skin. Support the neck when carrying it between rooms, keep the jaw hinge clear, and wipe the skin after outdoor use.

Questions

Is it light enough to hold for a long session?
It is built as a one-arm unit; if your act needs long continuous holds, say so when ordering and we will confirm the best shell for it.

Can it be used as a table puppet?
Yes. Half-body units are the usual choice for table and counter work.

Does it come with a body?
Not this one. If you want the full animal, the standard hand puppet or the shoulder puppet are the two options.

Can the skin colour be changed?
Yes, colour is a paint decision on the same mould.
