Production Process
An ankylosaurus is the least frightening dinosaur in the set, and that is why it works at family events. This shoulder unit carries the armour: rows of plates across the back, short spikes along the flanks, a club at the end of the tail, and a beak finished in orange against a green body with tan plating.
Armour that invites a touch
Children reach for a dinosaur that looks like a tank rather than a predator. The plates are moulded into the shell, so they read as armour from a distance and take handling at close range without a separate part working loose. The club tail is the detail people photograph.
Worn on the shoulders
The belly is open on one side and the shell sits over the performer's shoulders, with the head forward and slightly down, which suits an animal that grazes rather than lunges. At 1.5 to 1.8 metres it is big enough to be a presence and low enough to talk to a child at eye level.
Working it
Your hand goes in at the neck opening and works the head turn, the eyes and the jaw. The other hand stays outside on the multi-key remote. Movement is slower and heavier than the raptor by design; a steady walk with the tail swinging reads better than a fast one.
Sound for a family crowd
Four calls on four keys. For this animal the low, short sounds work better than a roar, and the free hand lets the operator answer a child who has just touched a plate. The 12V box and speaker sit in a pocket, speaker forward.
Where it fits
Family days and school visits, where a predatory dinosaur would be too much.
Museum lawns and zoo walkways, as a moving exhibit rather than a show.
Park trails and garden events, on flat ground.
Mall atriums at weekends, with a handler for spacing.
Practical notes
Check the plates for cracks after a busy event, since they are the parts people touch. Keep the tail clear when turning through doorways, and store the unit so the club is supported. Wipe the shell after outdoor use.
Questions
Is it safe for children to touch?
The surface is a finished shell with moulded plates; staff should still set the rules for touching. Tell us the venue and we will say what we would expect to need attention.
How heavy is it to wear?
It is a shoulder unit with a steel frame. Weight depends on the shell size, so confirm with us against performer height and set length.
Can the colours be changed?
Yes, paint is the last stage of the build.
Can it walk in a parade?
On flat ground, yes, with a handler alongside.
